Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 4/11/2023 from 9:30am to 12:20pm. At the time of entrance, 80 children were in care with 12 staff members present. Children were observed working on a cloud counting worksheet, coloring an umbrella with crayons, coloring a ?U? worksheet, circle time with group discussion, tracing and coloring on a worksheet and cutting out squares on a worksheet. Walls, bulletin boards and several other areas of the programming space was decorated with artwork, crafts and projects completed by the children. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. The site was organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. A selection of staff and children records, medications, the physical space, evacuation drills, emergency supplies and attendance records were reviewed. Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, areas outside were not maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. The black top has two large cracks in the walkway to the playground by the tree near the gate that is creating a tripping hazard.
Plan of Correction: The Asphalt will be repaired by a paving company.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.\
Evidence:
1. In the downstairs bathroom, a spray bottle of disinfectant and a spray bottle of Lysol all purpose cleaner was inside a high cabinet, but it was not locked.
Plan of Correction: Cleaner was removed.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation, the resilient surfacing under and near the playground equipment did not comply with the minimum safety standards.
Evidence:
1. The Caterpillar bars had minimal mulch underneath the fall zone areas and did not meet the requirements.
2. The metal silver slide had a large tree root sticking out of the ground at the bottom of the slide and did not meet the minimum requirements. There was minimal mulch near the fall zone areas of this slide.
Plan of Correction: Covered root with mulch. 4/11/2023. Fill Spotted areas. 4/21/2023.
Mulch delivered and spread whole playground. 6/03/2023
Standard 8VAC20-780-540-E
Based on observation, the center did not one working, battery-operated radio in each building used by children.
Evidence:
1. In the Building of Pooh's Pals, the center had a battery operated radio, but it was not working. The radio did not have batteries.
Plan of Correction: Batteries were installed.
