When staff are supervising children, they shall always ensure their care and protection. On 1/23/25, child 1, age 3 years, told staff 1 multiple times during the afternoon hours that her arm was hurting. Staff 1 took no action to assess, treat or comfort the child nor did she inform center management that child 1 was complaining of arm pain. After picking her up from the center that evening, child 1?s parents took her for medical treatment and child 1 was diagnosed with a serious injury to her arm.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Closely watch, engage and redirect children to create safe learning opportunities. Training of staff will concentrate on active supervision and will include these six strategies: setting up the environment. positioning staff, scanning/counting, listening, anticipating children's behavior, engaging and redirecting. If an incident does occur, we will promptly assess, treat and comfort the child. The staff member involved will also complete an incident report. We will also re-train current staff (and train new staff) on incident reporting. Effective incident reporting can be achieved as long as you follow best practices. These practices include: complete incident reporting as promptly as possible; be thorough, clear and accurate as you report details; immediately inform the person in charge; and, be sure to include as many specific details as possible. If it is a serious injury that requires medical attention, it will be reported to the district leader, incident reporting, and to licensing as quickly as possible.
