Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 9/12/2022 between 12:15pm and 2:00pm. There were 12 children present with the Provider and 2 Assistant for a total of 38 points within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed freely engaging and interacting. Positive interactions were observed during this inspection. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children, household members, and staff records, evacuation drills, and attendance were observed during this inspection. Thank you for your cooperation. Standard 8VAC20-800-210-A
Based on record review and interview, the provider did not ensure all caregivers working directly with children obtain a minimum of sixteen clock hours of training annually.

Evidence:

1. The record for caregivers #2 and #3 did not contain documentation of the 16 hours of required annual training.

2. The Provider confirmed that Caregivers #2 and #3 did not complete the required 16 hours of annual training.
Plan of Correction: Registration for in-person classes just opened and I am scheduling my two assistants for 16 hours of training. Virtual classes are hard for my assistants to complete so we have been waiting for the in-person registration to open.
Standard 8VAC20-800-280
Based on observation, potentially poisonous substances and materials were not stored away in an area inaccessible to children.

Evidence:

1. In a bathroom, a container of air freshener was located on top of the toilet accessible to children.

2. In the Infant area, a container of disinfectant spray was located on a low counter accessible to children.
Plan of Correction: On Saturday, 09/10/22 the cleaning crew was here and they left those items out. Otherwise, they are always safely kept in the storage room behind locked doors.
Standard 8VAC20-800-320-G
Based on record review and interview, the family day home wood-burning fireplace was not inspected annually by a knowledgeable inspector to verify that the devices are properly installed, maintained, and cleaned as needed.

Evidence:

1. The provider did not have documentation of a current annual fireplace inspection.

2. The most recent fireplace inspection is dated 6/25/2021.
Plan of Correction: had the fireplace inspection scheduled for June 2022 but a scheduling conflict arose and we had to postpone.
Standard 8VAC20-800-750-A
Based on observation and interview, the provider did not adhere to the requirements for using topical skin products.

Evidence: 5 of 5 topical skin products review did not have written authorizations for use.
Plan of Correction: The topical skin products were leftover from last year in the drawer and they are not currently being used, which is why there was no paperwork.
