Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:30am-11:30am. There were 21 children directly supervised by 4 staff. The physical plant, 4 staff records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, and playing with scarves. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, equipment was not maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
A wooden shelf was observed with peeling veneer which was sharp and posed a splinter hazard.
Plan of Correction: The peeling portion of the shelf will be covered in a way that prevents access to the sharp areas.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
Two unlocked cabinets were observed with sanitizing wipes and a spray cleaner.
Plan of Correction: The cabinets will be locked.
Standard 8VAC20-780-60-A
Based on record review, one of five children's records did not contain all required information.
Evidence:
Child 2's record did not contain the name, address, and phone number for one of the two required emergency contacts.
Plan of Correction: We will continue to ask the parents to provide this information.
