Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A code compliance inspection was initiated on Thursday, April 22, 2021 and concluded on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. The director/provider or in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 27 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director/provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable code sections and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. Based on review of staff record, interview, and documentation review, the program did not ensure to obtain a copy of results a sex offender registry check, and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry or equivalent registry from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years within the required timeframe.

Evidence: In Staff#2's record (date of hire: 8/17/2020) there were no results for a sex offender registry and out of state central registry found. Interview with staff confirmed there was no results available for review during this inspection. Documentation revealed on 4/27/2021 follow up contact made but there was still no results available during the inspection.
Plan of Correction: 1. I will initiate sex offender registry check prior to date of hire. Screen capture check results and time stamp print date of check for out of state employee applicants.
2. I will initiate out of state background checks prior to out of state applicants date of hire and follow up on results within 14 days and again if no results are found.
3. Current results of out of state results to be forwarded on receipt of results.
