Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 05/13/2024 and concluded with an electronic record review on 05/15/2024. There were 16 children, ages 3 years - 5 years, and 2 staff members providing direct care and supervision present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programs, emergencies, and nutrition. The children were observed during arrival from a field trip, teacher directed activities, and mealtime. A total of 5 children?s records, and 2 staff records were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with the provider: menus and lockdowns. The inspector arrived for the inspection at approximately 11:50 am and departed at approximately 12:40 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Based on observations, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
1. An aerosol can of ?Lysol? and a container of ?Clorox? wipes was located on top of the cubbies.
2. A spray bottle labeled ?Clorox bottle? was located on the utility sink in the corner of the classroom.
Plan of Correction: Hazardous substances were locked up during the inspection.
Standard 8VAC20-780-320-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that each restroom area provided for children shall have sinks located near the toilets that are supplied with running warm water that does not exceed 120? F.

Evidence: During hand washing, a child was heard saying ?it?s hot?. The temperature of the water in the sink on the right measured approximately 123.8?F.
Plan of Correction: Staff will report to admin staff for maintenance.
