Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 3/18/21 and concluded on 3/23/21. The director was contacted by email to initiate the inspection. There were 26 children present and 13 staff at the center. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 8 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. A virtual tour and observation was also conducted. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on record review and interview it was determined the center did not obtain a copy of the results of a search of the child abuse and neglect registry and sex offender registry check from any state in which the applicant has resided in the preceding five years prior to the first day of hire or service.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff #3(hired 11/10/20) did not contain documentation of a search of the child abuse and neglect registry and sex offender registry check for North Carolina. Staff #3 indicated on their sworn statement that they had lived in North Carolina within the last 5 years.
2. The record for staff #4(hired 11/2/20) did not contain documentation of a search of the child abuse and neglect registry and sex offender registry check for Maryland. Staff #4 indicated on their sworn statement that they had lived in Maryland within the last 5 years.
3. Staff #8 confirmed that there were no searches of the child abuse and neglect registry or sex offender registry check results from North Carolina for staff #3 or from Maryland for staff #4 available during this inspection.
Plan of Correction: Center will request a search of the child abuse and neglect registry and sex offender registry check from North Carolina for staff #3 a from Maryland for staff #4.
