Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 7/20/2023 and concluded on 7/20/2023. There were 26 children present with seven staff supervising, two office staff and one cook present. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of five child records were reviewed. The inspection started at 10:00 am and concluded at 1:25 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation the center failed to ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
The metal circular riding toy on the lower playground has a missing seat, a seat that is broken and rust.

Plan of Correction: Will ensure that this piece of equipment is repaired. No child will be allowed to play on this until it is repaired or removed.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation the center failed to have sufficient resilient surfacing under the playground equipment.
Evidence:
The yellow slide on the two year old playground has surfacing measuring 0-1 inch.
Plan of Correction: Resilient surfacing will be added to this playground area.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-F
Based on observation the center failed to ensure that a shady area shall be provided on playgrounds during the months of June, July, and August.
Evidence:
The large playground areas did not have a shady area during the inspection on 7/20/23.
Plan of Correction: Two tarps/covers have been ordered. They have been on order at least a month. Will check on the status of this order and ensure that a shady area is provided.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observations the center failed to ensure that children's hands shall be washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes before and after eating meals or snacks.
Evidence:
Three of the classrooms did not wash the children's hands following lunch. (toddler -four year old classes)
Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded that children's hands are to be washed before and after meals and snacks.
