Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 4/24/2023. There were 46 children present with 5 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The inspection started at 4:00pm and concluded at 5:15 pm.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation and interview, the licensee did not ensure that children wash their hands before and after eating meals or snacks.
Evidence:
Children were observed washing their hands and eating an afternoon snack.
After the children finished snack time, they were instructed by staff to line up at down the hallway at the exit door to go outside to the playground.
The children had not washed their hands following snack.
Once reminded, staff brought the children back to the area outside of the cafeteria and asked the children line up outside of the restrooms to wash their hands.
Plan of Correction: The program director stated that this was an oversight by staff and that handwashing after snacks and meals is a regular part of their routine.
The Program Director reminded staff to ensure children's hands are always washed following meals or snacks.
