Inspector Notes

A subsidy health and safety inspection conducted on 11/3/2022. There were 24 children, ages 4 -9 years and 3 staff present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, environment and equipment, care of children, preventing the spread of disease, emergencies and nutrition. A total of 4 children?s records and 3 staff records were reviewed. The children were observed active time, restroom break, snack time and homework. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 3:05pm and departed the center at 4:38pm.

A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover health and safety regulations. Only subsidy requirements not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this supplemental inspection.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Standard 8VAC20-790-600-B
Based on the review of three staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that within 90 days of employment staff who work directly with children shall complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff.

Evidence: Staff #2 date of hire was 04/10/2022 and on the day of the inspection did not have the required Preservice Training.
Plan of Correction: Provider will ensure employee completes Preservice Training.
Standard 8VAC20-790-600-D-1
Based on the review of three staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that all staff who work directly with children shall have within 90 days current certification in CPR appropriate to the ages of children in care.

Evidence:
1. Staff #1 CPR training was dated 7/14/2018 and on the day of the inspection did not have current CPR training documented.
2. Staff #2 date of hire was 04/10/2022 and on the day of the inspection did not have the required CPR training.
Plan of Correction: Provider will ensure staff receive CPR training.
Standard 8VAC20-790-600-D-2
Based on the review of three staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that all staff who work directly with children shall have within 90 days current certification in first aid appropriate to the ages of children in care.

1. Staff #1 first aid training was dated 7/14/2018 and on the day of the inspection did not have current first aid training documented.
Staff #2 date of hire was 04/10/2022 and on the day of the inspection did not have the required first aid training.

Based on the review of three staff?s records, the center failed to ensure that staff who work directly with children shall annually attend at least 16 hours of training and staff development activities, to include the departments annual health and safety update course.

Evidence: Staff #2 date of hire was 04/10/2022 and on the day of the inspection did not have the required annual health and safety course documented.
Plan of Correction: Provider will ensure staff completes the annual health and safety update course.
