Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. A total of 17 children with 4 staff were present today. Observation of both classrooms was made. The four year old class was observing an experiment that involved apple seeds, baking soda, water and vinegar. The children were engaged in observing the apple seeds float after adding vinegar. A survey of which is your favorite apple was on display. Children were able to select either red, green or yellow apples as their favorite. Artwork such as a "Summer Tree" and handprint apples was on display. The younger class was in circle time and transitioned to snack time after washing hands. Staff were assisting children with opening their snacks and engaging in conversation with the children. After snack, the children lined up and transitioned outside to the playground. An outdoor classroom is in the planning phases. Observation of the CASA program area was made, no children were onsite since the program does not open until 2pm. No new staff hired since the last inspection. Staff remain current on all certifications at this time. A total of 5 children's records were reviewed and found complete. This inspection occurred between 10am and 1pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on review of the record of daily attendance and observation of the 4 year old class, the record did not include documentation of all children.
Evidence:
A total of 7 children were in attendance in the four year old class on 09/27/2022. The record of daily attendance for 09/27/2022 reflected a total of only 6 children in attendance
Plan of Correction: We corrected the attendance record. We will maintain a hard copy of the attendance in each classroom in the event a parent does not have their code to sign their child in for the day.
