Inspector Notes

An unannounced on-site renewal inspection was conducted on 11/02/2022. There were 42 children, ages 1 year-5 years, and 8 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: free choice activities, large motor play outside, and snack. A total of 4 children?s records and 5 staff records, were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with staff: attendance requirements, policies, storage of chemicals, maintaining the outside area, method of maintaining sunscreen and insect repellent and new evacuation log.

Standard 8VAC20-780-40-K
Based on review of policies and interviews with staff, the center failed to ensure that a written procedure for prevention shaken baby syndrome or abusive head trauma, including coping with crying babies, safe sleeping practices, and sudden infant death syndrome awareness.

Evidence:
1.Stated by Staff # 6, the information is covered verbally in orientation with staff. The center did not have a written procedure.
Plan of Correction: The director will write the procedure that is given verbally to staff.
Standard 8VAC20-780-40-M
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that the center maintained a current written list of all children?s allergies, sensitives and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room or area where children are present.

Evidence:
Observed the allergy, sensitives and dietary restriction list in four classrooms and all four lists were present but did not have the required date documented.
Plan of Correction: The director will add the date on the list. The director stated that the list is current from this school year.
