Inspector Notes

A renewal inspection was initiated on 1/26/2023 and concluded on 1/26/2023. There were 37 children directly supervised by 5 staff members. Children were observed during a teacher work day engaged in activities in the gym, handwashing and lunch. The physical plant, 3 child records, 3 staff training records, medications, and evacuation drills were inspected. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Based on a review of medications and staff medication training, staff are not trained in administering rectal medication for a child that requires an emergency medication to be administered rectally.
Evidence: Child #1 has an emergency medication to be administered rectally, there is no staff trained in the administration of a rectal medication.
Plan of Correction: Staff will take the rectal medication administration training.
Standard 8VAC20-780-510-I
Based on a review of children medications, a prescription medication does not have the pharmacy prescription label with the prescribers instructions pertaining to dosage, frequency and manner of administration.
Evidence: Child #2 has an emergency Epi pen, the box does not have a prescription label with the instructions pertaining to dosage, frequency and manner of administration.
Plan of Correction: The parent will provide a pharmacy label for the child's medication.
