Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 06/05/2024. Two inspectors were on site from approximately 9:50am until 2:15pm. There were 92 children present with 15 staff supervising. There was a total of eight classrooms visited, ranging in ages from infants to school age. Children were observed in variety of activities including art activities, playing with building blocks, playing outside, coloring singing songs. Inspectors interacted with staff and children in care.

The inspectors reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of nine child records and nine staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have any questions, please reach out to the licensing inspector

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition. Unsafe conditions shall include, but not be limited to, splintered, cracked or otherwise deteriorating wood; chipped or peeling paint; visible cracks, bending or warping, rusting or breakage of any equipment; head entrapment hazards; and protruding nails, bolts or other components that could entangle clothing or snag skin.
Evidence:
1. In classroom 4?s bathroom, a tile floor was observed missing in the corner, exposing the sub floor of the bathroom.
2. In classroom 4?s bathroom, the pinch stopper on the door frame that stops from kids smashing fingers in the door was broken and cracked that could entangle clothing or snag skin.
3. Outside on the playground?s fence, a piece of the fence?s board was loose, exposing a sharp edge of a metal box. A protruding nail was observed in the same area that could entangle clothing or snag skin. Children were observed playing in the area.
4. Leadership acknowledged the building maintenance areas and equipment that needed repair.
Plan of Correction: Evidence 1 & Evidence 2 & Evidence 3. Once the inspection was completed director immediately contacted maintenance about the violations that were given. Evidence 1 & Evidence 2 & Evidence 3 & Evidence 4 Every Monday the director will do a walk thru to ensure all maintenance concerned are addressed. A maintenance ticket was also entered on the same day of inspection the date of correction is two weeks from the inspection date.

Based on observation, the center did not ensure all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. In the restroom in classroom 4, a spray bottle of bathroom cleaner was observed on a shelf not locked up.
2. The director acknowledged that the bathroom was used by the children.
Plan of Correction: Evidence 1- Once the observation of this classroom was completed. The director ensured that all cleaning supplies were locked away and up from children's reach. The director will also be responsible for implementing each step and monitoring any preventative measures. There will be a staff meeting Tuesday July 2nd to go over all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials and be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
