Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from approximately 2pm-4:45pm. There were 12 children in the direct care and supervision of 5 staff. A sample of 3 children?s records, and 3 staff records were reviewed. The children were observed eating, playing outside and napping. Zero new staff have been hired since the last inspection. Standard 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Based on observation, electrical outlets were not covered with protective covers that are of a size that cannot be swallowed by children.

Evidence:
Electrical outlets were uncovered and unused on a powerstrip located in the "Caterpillar's" room.

Standard 8VAC20-780-40-I
Based on interview, the center did not develop written procedures for injury prevention.

Evidence:
Staff A stated that an injury prevention plan had not been created.
Plan of Correction: The injury prevention plan has been separated from the accident form and has been put on a separate log.
Standard 8VAC20-780-510-L
Based on observation, medication was not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
The medication for Child A was located on a shelf in the main office.
Plan of Correction: The medication was given back to the parent. Child no longer requires it.

Based on observation, a 911 or local dial number for police, fire and emergency medical services and the number of the regional poison control center were not posted in a visible place at each telephone.

Evidence:
911 and poison control numbers were not posted in the "Caterpillar" room.
Plan of Correction: We placed all numbers in front of all phones.
