Inspector Notes

A mandated monitoring inspection was conducted on January 17, 2024 from 10:55 A.M.-2:15 P.M. There were 72 children present, ranging in ages from four months to five years of age, with 16 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of seven child records and 13 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that children washed their hands with soap and running water or disposable wipes after eating meals.

Evidence:
1. In the Pioneer II's classroom the children did not wash their hands with soap and running water or a disposable wipe after eating lunch.
2. The children got up form the lunch table and went to their cots and started playing with poppers.
3. Staff #1 verified that the children did not wash their hands with soap and running water or a disposable wipe after eating lunch.
Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded and retrained on proper procedures for handwashing after meal time.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that the diapering table was sprayed with soap and water first, and then be sanitized after each use.

Evidence:
1. In the Waddler II's classroom, Staff #2 was completing a diaper change. Staff #2 did not spray the diapering pad with soap and water to clean the surface. Staff #2 only sprayed the diapering pad with sanitizing solution.
2. In Waddler I's classroom, Staff #3 was completing a diaper change. Staff #3 did not spray the diapering pad with soap and water to clean the surface. Staff #3 only sprayed the diapering pad with sanitizing solution.
Plan of Correction: Diapering staff will be reminded of and retrained on the proper way to clean and sanitize diapering surfaces after each change. A diaper chart will be posted next to each station on 01/24/2024.
