Inspector Notes
A monitoring inspection was conducted on January 18, 2023. There were 42 children present, with 12 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The tuberculosis screening for staff #1, first day of employment 2/9/2022, is dated 6/3/2021, which is not within 30 days of first day of employment.

A cabinet located in the main hallway that contained hazardous cleaning substances was unlocked making the items accessible to children.

No time was recorded of infants being placed on their stomachs for infants who cannot turn themselves over and are awake.

In the Infant B room, there were more children present, than labeled cribs.
The cots located in the Two's classroom, were numbered but no corresponding list of names was available.

The diapering surfaces in the Infant B classroom and the Two's classroom are not being cleaned and sanitized using the procedure required by the Virginia Licensing Standards. The diapering surface must be cleaned by spraying or dipping with a solution of soap and water, pat dry, then spray or dip with a solution of bleach and water to sanitize and allow to air dry.

In the Two's room an over the counter skin product was located in the diapering area for child #1, with an expiration date of 8/2022.

Diaper ointment or cream in the Infant B classroom was not labeled with a child's name.
Diaper ointments or creams in the Infant A classroom, the Two's classroom, and the Toddler's classroom were located in the cabinet under the diapering area that is accessible to children. The cabinet does not need to be locked, but the ointments or creams need to be inaccessible to children.

In the Infant B classroom, there were four cups in the refrigerator that were not clearly dated and labeled in a way that identified the owner; Staff confirmed the cups were full when brought in from home.
