Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on November 15, 2023 from 10:25 AM to 11:40 AM. At the time of entrance, 2 children (age range 2 to 3) totaling 4 points were in care with 1 provider. The sample size consisted of 5 children?s records and 1 provider records. Children were observed watching tv, playing freely and eating.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-800-280
Based on observation and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure that potentially poisonous substances, materials and supplies such as, but not limited to, cleaning agents, disinfectants, deodorizers, plant care chemicals, pesticides, and petroleum distillates shall be stored away from food in areas inaccessible to children.

Evidence: The bottom cabinet in the restroom was accessible to the children incare and there was a container of disinfectant and cleaner. These items were labeled "keep out of reach of children" and labeled with at least one other statement "warning", "flammable" and "hazardous".
Plan of Correction: The Cabinet was Locked in front of Inspector.
Standard 8VAC20-800-320-H
Based on observation and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure all flammable and combustible materials such as, but not limited to, matches, lighters, lighter fluid, kerosene, turpentine, oil and grease products, aerosol cans, and alcohol shall be stored in an area inaccessible to children.

Evidence: There was candle burning on the stove and accessible to the children in care.
Plan of Correction: Correction was done when inspection was observed.
Standard 8VAC20-800-680-B
Based on observation and provider interviews, the caregivers shall ensure that children's hands are washed with liquid soap and warm running water before eating.

Evidence: Child #2 was observed eating on 2 separate occasions and did not wash their hands prior to eating.
Plan of Correction: Children will wash hands before every meal.

Based on record review and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure to annually review with the parents required emergency contact information, to ensure the information is correct and obtain the parent's signed acknowledgment of the review.

Evidence: The record for Child #4 had a parents review date signed on 4-20-2021.

Standard 8VAC20-800-800-B
Based on documentation review and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure to review the emergency plan at least annually and update the plan as needed. The provider shall document in writing each review and update to the emergency plan.

Evidence: The providers most recent documentation of an emergency update is dated 2016.
Plan of Correction: Emergency was reviewed. No updates were needed.
