Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted 3/27/2023 from 10:10am through 11:35am. There were 35 children directly supervised by 5 staff and all classrooms were in ratio. The physical plant, outdoor playground area, programming, menus,4 staff records, 5 children?s records,3 board officer records, 2 medications, emergency drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed practicing handwriting, playing in centers, working on a spring craft, listening to story time, and completing puzzles. Positive interactions between children and staff were observed during this inspection. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials for the children and the center was clean and organized. There was an adequate number of CPR/First Aid, Daily Health Observation, and MAT trained staff on site at the time of inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Based on record review, the center did not ensure that all staff complete the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation court within 90 calendar days of employment.

Evidence: Staff #3 (Date of Hire: 9/30/2004) and Staff #4 (Date of Hire: 6/1987) have not completed the Virginia Department of Education-sponsored orientation course.
Plan of Correction: Staff will complete class.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation of the playground, the center did not ensure that resilient surfacing was maintained under equipment with a climbing apparatus to create a fall zone.

Evidence: On the playground, there was no measurable resilient surfacing under the light blue slide that was approximately 1 foot in height.
Plan of Correction: Mulch will be filled in under the blue slide.

Based on observation and staff interview, the center has not maintained current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions that is dated and kept confidential in each room or area where children are present.

Evidence: There is no written list of children's allergies in any of the classrooms where children are present. Child #6 and Child #7 both have diagnosed food allergies and have emergency medications on site.
Plan of Correction: Allergy list will be placed in a confidential place in each classroom.
