Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 10:37 am until 12:11 pm. There were 21 children present with 3 staff supervision, and 2 administrative staff on site. The children in care were observed by the inspector engaged in active play in the classroom, interacting with peers and staff, completing bathroom breaks, playing on various age appropriate equipment in the indoor play area, and preparing for lunch. The children's lunch consisted of corn dogs, mixed vegetables, peaches, and milk. A total of 5 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed. The Inspector reviewed indoor areas, staffing and supervision, activities, equipment, emergency evacuation, and shelter-in-place drill documentation, emergency procedures and required posting. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. If you have any question regarding the inspection, please contact inspector, Tiffany Jones at 757-403-3045.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, the center did not ensure hazardous substances are kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: In Pre-K room (250), there was a container of disinfectant cleaner observed under the staff desk with the labels "keep out of reach of children" and "danger" accessible to the children in care.
Plan of Correction: The center's Director immediately removed the cleaner from the desk area and secured it. There were no children present in the classroom.
