Inspector Notes

An unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place on 12/01/2022 between the hours of approximately 9:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. There were 5 classrooms observed with a total of 52 children with 11 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed participating in circle time, playing with blocks and other organized activities. Positive interaction between staff and children were observed. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, equipment of the center, inside, were not maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence: Two red cushions on a couch in the Preschool classroom were torn and ripped on the corners.
Plan of Correction: I will either replace the cushions or remove the couch.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. A bottle of bathroom cleaner was located in an unlocked cabinet under the sink in the Preschool classroom. The cabinet had a lock, but it was not in use.
2. A bottle of hand sanitizer (warning label says to keep out of reach of children), was located on a counter by the sink in the Preschool classroom.
Plan of Correction: I will go over with them the proper locking of cabinets and the organization of dangerous objects. I will place the hand sanitizer in a higher cabinet and lock.
