Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted on July 14, 2023 from 9:50am to approximately 11:45am. There were 43 children present and 13 staff members. The Inspector reviewed five children?s records and five staff records. The Inspector observed the interaction of staff and children throughout the inspection. Children were observed during free play, arts and crafts, coloring, lunch and nap. The transportation van was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. The violations were discussed with the owners at the exit interview.

Standard 8VAC20-780-560-M
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that no child shall be allowed to drink or eat while walking around.
Evidence:
1. In the toddler room #1, there were two children observed eating cracker and walking.
2. Toddler staff confirmed the two children were walking and eating in the classroom.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Owner was able to look at the Licensing Standards and will educate his staff of the standard. The center will ensure that all children are sitting when drinking or eating.
Standard 8VAC20-780-580-B
Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that any vehicle used by the center for the transportation of children shall meet the safety standards set by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Evidence:
1. The transportation van for the center had expired Virginia State DMV registration tags that were dated January 2023.
2. The most recent up to date registration card from the DMV was unable to be located by the owner.
3. The owner confirmed that the transportation van?s Virginia registration tags were expired as of January 2023.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The owner contacted the DMW and re-registered the vehicle for another 3 years.
