Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today between 9:30 am and 11:30am. There were 64 children present with 9 staff members. The entire physical plant was inspected. Children were observed working in classrooms and having morning snack. Staff and children's records, evacuation logs, attendance logs, emergency supplies, lunch boxes and emergency plans were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance were cited on the Violation Notice. Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, the Center failed to maintain the areas of the facility in a clean, safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. In the Green Room, behind the first door, the paint in peeling and chipping off of the wall.
Plan of Correction: I will contact the owner today and advise him of the maintenance issue.
Standard 8VAC20-780-40-M
Based on observation, the Center did not maintain the current written list of children's allergies, sensitivities and dietary restrictions in a confidential manner.
Evidence:
The list of children's allergies, sensitivities and dietary restrictions were posted in open view in the classrooms.
Plan of Correction: I will keep the list of children's allergies in a confidential manner in the classrooms.
Standard 8VAC20-780-560-G
Based on observation, the Center failed to ensure that when food is brought from home, the food container shall be sealed and clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.
Evidence:
There were nine lunch containers without names, ten lunch containers without dates and eight lunch containers without names or dates.
Plan of Correction: I will remind parents to label children's lunch containers and I will ensure that they are labeled if parents do not remember.
