Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on October 13th, 2022 from 10:00am-12:00 pm. There were 64 children directly supervised by 9 staff. The physical plant, staff records, children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, reading books, and eating snack. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that staff have current Central Registry findings.

Evidence:
Staff #1's record does not have documentation of a current central registry finding.
Plan of Correction: I will re-send central registry request.
Standard 8VAC20-780-240-C
Based on review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that all required orientation training is completed.

Evidence:
Staff #1's record did not have documentation of recognizing child abuse and neglect andd the legarl requirements for reporting suspected child abuse as required.
Plan of Correction: I will ensure that the staff member completes the training.
Standard 8VAC20-780-40-M
Based on observation the center failed to maintain, in a way that is accessible to all staff who work with the children a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities and dietary restrictions documented in the allergy plan. This list shall be dated and kept confidential in each room or area where the children are present.

Evidence:
In the Red Classroom the allergy list information was not kept confidential.
Plan of Correction: I will make sure allergy list are kept confidential.

Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that when food is brought from home, the food container shall be sealed and clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.

Evidence:
2 lunchboxes did not have a name or a date.
I lunchbox had a name, but the wrong date.
3 lunchboxes did not have a name, but did have a date.
Plan of Correction: We will remind parents to label children's lunchboxes.
