Inspector Notes

A complaint investigation regarding classroom staff:child ratios was conducted on 11/16/2022 and 11/18/2022. The Inspector completed all applicable staff interviews, observed classroom ratios, and reviewed attendance records.

Based on all available information, this complaint was deemed valid.

Ongoing compliance with the Minimum Standards is the responsibility of the licensee.

Standard 8VAC20-780-350-B-4
Based on staff interviews and a review of attendance records, it was determined that one classroom of children between the ages of 3 and 5, was operated beyond the allowable staff:child ratio of 1:10 on two occasions.
Evidence:
1 - On 11/8/2022 there was one staff with 16 children in the Pre-K A classroom between approximately 8:35-8:45AM.
2 - On 11/9/2022 there was one staff with 18 children in the Pre-K A classroom between approximately 8:20-8:45AM.
Plan of Correction: Staff will be reminded to notify management prior to going over ratio. Staff will also be reminded to always sign in on the attendance sheet so that all records are accurate.
New staff have been hired with the plan of being over-staffed.

Based on observations, it was determined that staff did not sit with children during one meal time.
Evidence:
In the PreK-A classroom, the staff present during lunch were observed not sitting at the tables with the children.
Plan of Correction: All staff will be reminded to sit with the children during lunch.
