Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on May 4, 2022 and concluded on May 5, 2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 63 children present, ranging in ages from 3 months to age 5, with 11 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 4 child records and 4 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on documentation review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure to obtain annual approval from the health department.

Evidence: The most recent health inspection was dated 3-9-2021.
Plan of Correction: Inspection is scheduled for 5-16-2022.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure that all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: The following items were observed in the classrooms and stored in areas that were not locked and were labeled "Keep out of reach of children" and at least one of the other statements "hazardous", "flammable" and "warning".
1) In the Pre-K 2 room in an unlocked cabinet there were 3 containers of sanitizing wipes, and 1 container of hand sanitizer.
2) In the toddler room on a shelf there were 2 containers of hand sanitizer.
Plan of Correction: Hazardous substances are locked away.
