Inspector Notes

On 02/23/2023 an unannounced inspection was conducted in response to a self-reported incident received on 02/03/2023. Interviews were conducted regarding the incident. The information gathered during the inspection resulted in a violation. Areas of non-compliance are identified on this Violation Notice.
Please complete the ?plan of correction? and ?date to be corrected? for the violation cited on the violation notice and return it to me within 10 calendar days from today. Specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Your plan of correction should contain: 1) steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard(s), 2) measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again; and 3) person(s) responsible for implementing each step and/or monitoring any preventive measure(s).

Standard 8VAC20-780-400-B
Based on interview, the center failed to ensure behavioral guidance was constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and shall be intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts.

Evidence:

1. Per the director who witnessed the incident on a video recording, on 01/31/2023 a staff member yelled at a first grade child and pulled him up by the collar of his shirt to get him to follow her.
Plan of Correction: Staff will complete training on proper tone with children, age and stage appropriate communication and redirection of children and how to resolve conflicts.

Staff will complete training in techniques to manage stress when working with children.
"Resilient Caregivers: 'Bouncing Back' from Stress"
Staff will complete the above training no later than 6 PM, Friday March 10, 2023.
