Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on May 18, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 34 children present and 15 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed four children?s records and four staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on record review and interview, the center did not obtain fingerprint based national criminal record checks prior to the first day of employment for each staff.

Evidence:
1. Staff #1 was hired 05/03/2021. Staff #1's record did not contain documentation of results of a fingerprint based criminal record check. Documentation of Staff #1's fingerprint appointment was in the record. Staff #4 stated that Staff #1 went to the appointment, but results did not come back. The Office of Background Investigations(OBI) was contacted, and they sent the results to the center the day of the inspection.
2. Staff # 2 was hired 01/29/2021. Staff #2 had documentation of fingerprint results dated after the date of hire. The results were dated 02/08/2021.
3. Staff #3 was hired 01/29/2021. Staff #3 had documentation of fingerprint results dated after the date of hire. The results were dated 02/05/2021.
Plan of Correction: The center will ensure that fingerprint results are completed and returned prior to the first day of employment.
