Inspector Notes

Today an unannounced Monitoring Inspection took place between the hours of 8:30am and 11:15am. There were 9 classrooms observed with a total of 79 children with 15 staff within the supervision guidelines. The children were observed being dropped off by parents, washing hands, eating breakfast, doing tummy time, playing with blocks and other organized activities. A complete inspection of the physical plant, children and staff records, fire drill log, medication and emergency procedures were observed during this inspection. Violations were found during today?s inspection and can be viewed on the Violation Notice.

During today's inspection, a complaint that was received in the licensing office on 12/18/2022 was also investigated. Interviews were conducted and observations were made. At the time of this investigation, the preponderance of evidence did not support the allegation and the complaint is deemed not valid.

Based on record review, the center did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for children under the age of two years.
Evidence: Child #3 (18 months) most recent immunizations are from when the child was 7 months old.
Plan of Correction: Contacted family to retrieve most current records.
Standard 8VAC20-780-320-B
Based on observation, children's restroom areas did not contain all required supplies.
Evidence: There was no toilet paper available in the bathrooms of the Discovery classroom and Preschool B classroom.
Plan of Correction: Filled all dispensers and spoke with staff about having required supplies at children's level.
Standard 8VAC20-780-350-B-1
Based on observation, the center did not maintain a ratio of 1 staff to 4 children in a classroom with children age birth through 16 months.
Evidence: The infant classroom had 5 children present with 1 staff for approximately 5 minutes at the start of the inspection.
Plan of Correction: Spoke with staff about transitioning children to maintain ratios.
Standard 8VAC20-780-520-C
Based on observation, diaper ointments and/or creams did not follow all requirements.
Evidence: Three diaper ointments were observed in a cabinet in the Toddler B classroom without a name to identity the owner.
Plan of Correction: Labeled all containers, spoke with staff and reminded parents, we will have proper names on items.
