Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 09/28/2022 from 10:05 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. There were 14 children present, ranging in ages from 4 years old to 5 years old with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Based on observation and interview, the center failed to ensure that resilient surfacing complied with the minimum safety standards of 6 inches for wood chip mulching.
Evidence:
1. Less than 2 inches of wood chip mulch was observed in the fall zones around the climbing structures on the playground.
2. Staff #1 confirmed there was not 6 inches of wood chip mulch around the climbing structures.
Plan of Correction: Provider contacted Board President about getting more mulch on the playground.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation and interview, the center failed to ensure that children?s hands were washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes after eating a snack.
1. 6 children were observed to not wash hands after eating snacks.
2. Staff #1 and #2 confirmed that the children did not wash their hands after eating snacks.
Plan of Correction: Provider will take wipes when having snack outside and will use the sink to wash hands when in the classroom after snack.
