Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/14/21 and concluded on 5/20/21. The center administrator was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 76 children present and 10 staff. The inspector emailed the administrator a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children's records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that a copy of the results of a criminal history record information check, a sex offender registry check, and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry is obtained from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years.

Evidence:
1. Staff 1 has a hire date of 3/25/21. Staff 1 indicated on her sworn statement or affirmation that she has resided in the states of Delaware and Maryland within the past five years. The results of a criminal history record check and a child abuse and neglect registry check were not available for staff 1 from the state of Delaware. The results of a sex offender registry check and a child abuse and neglect registry check were not available for the state of Maryland.
2. The center administrator confirmed that the required background checks for staff 1 were not obtained from the states of Delaware and Maryland.
Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff 1's last day of employment is 5/21/21. Going forward, the center will ensure that all out-of-state background checks are completed within the required timeframes.
