Inspector Notes

An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted on 9/7/2022 to investigate an allegation received by the department related to Special Care Provisions and emergencies: Preventing the Spread of Disease. Based on evidence gathered through observations and interviews, the complaint was determined to be valid. A violation notice was issued to the facility. An exit interview was conducted on 9/21/2022.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation, the facility failed to ensure that all handwashing procedures were followed as required. Evidence:
1) Four children in the preschool IA classroom were observed having a diaper/pull-up change/using the bathroom and they did not wash their hands afterwards with soap and running water or before eating snack. The four children went straight to the table and ate snack.
2) Two children in the preschool IIA classroom were observed having a pull-up change/using the bathroom and they did not wash their hands afterwards with soap and water.
3) Staff were observed assisting children with toileting procedures and did not wash their hands before and after helping each child.
Plan of Correction: Retrained all staff on handwashing procedures at staff meeting on 9/14/22.
