Inspector Notes
An unannounced complaint inspection was initiated with the local department of social services and law enforcement on 5/25/2023 to investigate an allegation received by the department regarding Behavioral Guidance and Forbidden Actions. Additional interviews were conducted on 6/1/23. Based on evidence gathered through interviews and documentation review, the complaint was determined to be not valid. There was, however, one violation issued as a result of the inspection. An exit interview was conducted on 6/6/2023. Based on interviews, the center failed to ensure that all behavioral guidance is constructive in nature, age and stage appropriate, and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflicts. Evidence: On 5/24/23, between approximately 5:10-5:50pm, staff #1 lifted child #1, by their arms, causing the child's feet to leave the ground, and placed them into a chair. Staff #1 admitted that this happened because child #1 wasn?t listening and wouldn?t sit down. Interviews revealed that child #1, age 4, did not cry in response.
Plan of Correction: Behavioral guidance was addressed at a staff meeting and all staff have been provided with 1:1 training regarding safe methods for lifting children.
