Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 10:00am-11:30am. There were 55 children directly supervised by 10 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 7 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in a music activity, transitioning outside for play, and napping. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Based on observation, documents required by the Superintendent were not posted in a conspicuous place on the licensed premises.
Evidence:
The inspection findings from April 19, 2023 were not posted in the facility.
Plan of Correction: The inspection documentation left on 1/31 will be posted immediately. The most recent inspection will be posted going forward.
Standard 8VAC20-780-240-B
REPEAT VIOLATION
Based on record review, staff did not complete all required orientation prior to the staff member working alone with children and no later than seven days of the date of assuming job responsibilities.
Evidence:
Staff 2's record contained an incomplete orientation training. The staff member has been employed for approximately three weeks.
Plan of Correction: We will have the staff member complete the orientation.

REPEAT VIOLATION
Based on observation, areas of the center were not maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
Chipping and flaking paint was observed on a wall in the Young Toddler Classroom.
Plan of Correction: A work order to fix the chipping paint will be placed today.
Standard 8VAC20-780-430-B
Based on observation, materials were not age and stage appropriate for the ages of children in care.
Evidence:
Small pom poms and packing peanuts observed on an open shelf in the toddler room to be used as art material. These materials pose a choking hazard to this age group.
Plan of Correction: The items will be removed and age appropriate materials will be used moving forward.
