22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education
Inspector Notes
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted with the director beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. There were 78 children in care ages 3 months through 5 years old under the supervision of 10 staff. Infants were observed in various infant equipment, napping and being held. Children were observed during nap time. Classrooms, supplies and materials were observed.
There were seven children's records and four staff records reviewed. There were no medications on site during this inspection.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation and inspection of the facility, not all areas and equipment of the center were maintained in clean, safe, operable condition. Evidence: In the preK classroom, the 2.5-3's class and SAC classroom the exhaust fans in the bathrooms are extremely loud and not operating properly. In the two's class, the cabinet door is broken and comes off the cabinet with a slight touch creating a scratching and crush hazard. There are two broken chairs that have cracks in the back/seat that create pinching/scratching hazards. In the SAC bathroom, there is a strong smell of urine.

Based on observation, not all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place. Evidence: A bucket of cleaning supplies was stored on top of the cabinet in the two's room.

Based on observation, there was not at least 12 inches of space between occupied cots. Evidence: In the two's room, there were six cots that were in such close proximity to one another that the linens were touching. In the three's classroom, there were eight cots that were not spaced and were touching other cots.
