Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 2:15 - 3:15 pm with the provider. There were four children, ranging from 16 months to three years of age, for a total of nine points. Children were observed playing with age-appropriate toys. Two child records, one caregiver record, the emergency drill log and daily attendance were reviewed. The provider is not currently certified in Medication Administration Training (MAT) and cannot administer medication to children in care. Based on observation, the diapering surface was not cleaned and sanitized after each use. Evidence: the provider changed a child?s diaper and did not sanitize the diapering surface afterwards.

Standard 8VAC20-800-690-E
Based on observation, not all diapers were disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal. Evidence: 1) the provider placed a soiled diaper on the carpet while dressing the child, 2) carried the diaper to the kitchen area where she used her hand to open a door to get a plastic bag, 3) carried the plastic bag with the diaper to the door, 4) used her hand to open the door, and 5) used her hand to open a trash can outside and dispose of the soiled diaper.

Based on observation, children were allowed to eat while walking around. Evidence: a 16 month old child was observed walking around the daycare area eating a piece of bread.
