Inspector Notes

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 7/15/22 from 10:15am to 12:50pm with the Director. There were 51 children in care, ranging in age from four-months to 11-years-old, supervised by seven staff. The children were observed playing on the playground, singing and reading books, taking turns changing clothes after water play, and having free play. Five child records and five staff records were reviewed and were in compliance. The Center has 17 staff with current certification in CPR and First Aid, and 17 staff trained in Daily Health Observation. The Director reported that there were no medications on site but the center has eight staff with current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT). The attendance and emergency drill log were reviewed. The most recent Fire Inspection on file was dated 1/26/22 and the most recent Health Inspection on file was dated 3/4/22. Lunch served was ziti with meat sauce, garlic bread, spinach salad, pears, and milk. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the Licensing Inspector, Laura Brindle, at laura.brindle@doe.virginia.gov or 540-905-2062.

Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-80-A
Based on observation, review of documentation, and interview with staff, the center did not maintain a written record of attendance that documented the arrival and departure of children in care as it occurred. Evidence: 1. At approximately 10:35am on 7/15/22 there were three children observed in the Infant class. The attendance contained documentation of five children present. Interview revealed that one child had left for an appointment and another child had been moved to another class. 2. At approximately 10:45am on 7/15/22 there were seven children observed in the two-year-old class. The attendance contained documentation of six children present.
Plan of Correction: The attendance was updated during the inspection and the staff were re-trained on making updates immediately when children arrive or leave.
