A subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was conducted in conjunction with the licensing inspection. Subsidy standards that are not covered in licensing standards were reviewed during this SHSI.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

The vendor shall maintain, in a way that is accessible to all caregivers, a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. This list shall be dated and kept confidential.
There was no list available to staff of children with food allergies. There was one child present with a food allergy.

Plan of Correction: To ensure compliance, the provider will maintain a current, dated list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions in a manner that is accessible to all caregivers while remaining confidential. This list will be updated as needed and stored in designated areas with in each classroom and food preparation area to ensure staff awareness and proper response at all times.

The vendor shall maintain a written hard copy record of daily attendance that documents the arrival and departure of each child in care as it occurs.

Plan of Correction: The attendance sheet was missing records for one day only due to an oversight. To prevent recurrence, we will speak with the parents to reinforce the importance of signing in and out daily. Staff will also monitor sign-in procedures more closely to ensure compliance moving forward.

A written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and the steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction.

Plan of Correction: The provider will request a written allergy care plan from the parent, completed and signed by the child's physician, identifying the allergen and outlining steps to take in the event of a reaction. The plan will be kept on file and readily accessible to staff, and will be required for all children with diagnosed food allergies going forward.

Plan of Correction: The required Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff was completed and documented the same day the violation was noted. The caregiver's file has been updated to include the training certificate. Moving forward, all training deadlines will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and compliance.
