Violations

1
Standard 8VAC20-780-245-J-1
Based on staff record review and interview, the center did not ensure that staff have satisfactorily completed a training program for the purpose of administering medication approved by the Board of Nursing and taught by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, doctor of medicine or osteopathic medicine, or pharmacist pursuant to ? 54.1- 3408 of the Code of Virginia.

Evidence: Staff #6 reported that staff at the center will administer EpiPens and inhalers to children if necessary. Child #6 had emergency AUVI-Q medication on site for a peanut allergy. Staff #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 did not have documentation of current Medication Administration Training that is approved by the Board of Nursing and meets the requirements in the Drug Control Act related to the administration of medication in licensed centers.
Plan of Correction: Staff will complete MAT training. Also noted that we only administer EpiPens and inhalers. No other medications at this school.
