Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 04/18/2023. There were 73 children, ages 5 year-12 years, and 7 staff members were present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, physical plant, and staffing and supervision. The children were observed in the following: arriving to the program, during afternoon snack, in indoor and outdoor free choice activities, participating in special programming with a partner organization, and during homework. A total of 7 children?s records and 8 staff records were reviewed. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 2:25 pm and departed at 4:30 pm.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances, such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
1. There was a clear plastic spray bottle labeled ?bleach/water? on the top shelf of a shelving unit located beside of the kitchen service window that was not locked to prevent access by children.
2. There was a clear plastic spray bottle labeled ?bleach/water? on the top shelf of the shelving unit located in the food service corner of the cafeteria area that was not locked to prevent access by children.
Plan of Correction: Will purchase a file box that can be locked to store the cleaning materials in.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-D
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that cleaning and sanitizing materials shall not be located above food, food equipment, utensils or single-service articles and shall be stored in areas physically separate from food.

Evidence: There was a clear plastic spray bottle labeled ?bleach/water? on the top shelf of the shelving unit located in the food service corner of the cafeteria area that was located above the following items: a box of apples; a box of individual Ranch Dressing containers; plastic forks; paper plates; and napkins.
Plan of Correction: Will purchase a file box that can be locked to store the cleaning materials in.
