Inspector Notes

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 3/13/2023. There were 30 children, ages 6 months ? 4 years, 7 staff and 1 administrative staff present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, personnel, environment and equipment, care of children, preventing the spread of disease, emergencies and nutrition. A total of 4 children?s records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The children were observed during circle time and lunch. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 11:00am and departed the center at 12:41pm.

Discussion on standards related to special feeding needs.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-B
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that disposable diapers shall be disposed of in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot-operated or used in such away that neither the staff member?s hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

Evidence: A diaper genie was observed in the restroom by the changing table that is in use in the infant room on the left side of the center that is foot operated but the flaps inside the diaper genie require staff to use their hands to insert the diaper and staff hands come in contact with the exterior surface of the storage system.
Plan of Correction: Provider will replace diaper disposal system in infant room on left side of center.

Based on record review and discussion with staff, the center failed to ensure that the separate record for each child enrolled contains all of the elements as required by the standards.

Evidence: The record for Child 2 did not contain the following information: name of the child?s physician
Plan of Correction: Provider will obtain physicians name.
