Inspector Notes

A renewal inspection was initiated on 10/13/2022 and concluded on 10/13/2022. There were a total of 65 children with 10 staff members present. Children were observed during roll call, coloring, playing on the carpet, diapering, singing, and engaging in story time. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 6 child records and 6 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard 8VAC20-780-160-C
Based on file review, a staff member did not submit the results of a follow-up tuberculosis screening at least every two years from the date of the initial screening.

Evidence: There was no record that Staff #1 had submitted a follow-up tuberculosis test at least every two years from the date of the initial screening.
Plan of Correction: Center will ensure that staff member submits updated tuberculosis screening.
Standard 8VAC20-780-270-A
Based on observation, equipment at the center was not in safe condition.

Evidence: One set of blinds had a cord that risked head entrapment in a classroom.
Plan of Correction: Blind cord was severed to eliminate the risk of head entrapment.
Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Based on observation, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place that prevent access by children.

Evidence: Spray on sunscreen labeled "Keep out of reach of children" was found in reach of children in the bathroom of a classroom.
Plan of Correction: Sunscreen was moved to a locked area, out of the reach of the children.

Based on review of the menu, the center did not follow the most recent age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Evidence: Snack menu showed only one of the required two food components.
Plan of Correction: Center will update the menu to ensure at least 2 food components are included for all snacks.
