Standard 8VAC20-780-400-B
Based on observations and interviews the center did not ensure behavioral guidance was constructive in nature, age and intended to redirect children to appropriate behavior and resolve conflict.

Video footage confirmed, on January 27th, around or about 10:15am staff in the 2 year-old room did not use appropriate behavioral guidance.

1. Staff B picked-up 2 year-old child #3 from under a sensory table in the classroom. While holding the child close to the face, it was reported, Staff B used a firm and harsh tone to discipline the child.

2. Staff A grabbed 2 year-old child #1 by the wrist to move them.

3. Staff A grabbed 2 year-old child #2 by the front of the shirt to move them from where they were seated.

2. Staff A removed her mask, pointed her finger and leaned close to child #3's face; It was reported Staff A verbally reprimanded the child at the same time.
Plan of Correction: Staff A and B no longer work for the company. All staff were trained on intentional interactions at our teacher in service day on 2/21/2022. In addition we have scheduled a mandatory staff training with Tara Powell on 3/3/2022 on positive guidance and redirection technique. The director was trained on our Positive guidance and support process with our resources from our education team on 2/24/2022. Staff will ensure partnership with management and our education team to help ensure proper classroom management techniques. Management will have direct oversight and perform weekly observations rotating classrooms to aid in any training opportunities. DM will also review periodically as well as the education team to ensure we have compliance and positive classroom interactions.
