Standard 8VAC20-780-280-B
Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Air freshener and sanitizer were stored on a high shelf in a closet in a school age classroom. The closet was not locked at the time of the inspection.
Plan of Correction: The classroom closet was immediately locked, and hazardous substances were secured inside the locked closet, making them inaccessible to children. Staff were reminded that hazardous substances must be stored in a locked area at all times and that closets containing hazardous materials must remain locked when not in use. Management will monitor classrooms during routine walkthroughs to ensure continued compliance.
Standard 8VAC20-780-330-B
Where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards.
The resilient surfacing on the preschool/pre-k playground was measured at approximately 4 and a half inches by two pieces of equipment.
Plan of Correction: On the day of inspection, management redistributed and raked the existing pea gravel to achieve the required resilient surfacing depth around all playground equipment. Management and Safety Captain will routinely monitor playground surfacing, with particular attention to fall-zone areas, and redistribute or replenish surfacing as needed to maintain required depth.
