1Standard 8VAC20-780-560-F
When centers choose to provide meals or snacks, the food container shall be sealed and clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner. In a two year old classroom, three of ten water bottles were not labeled. In a pre-kindergarten classroom, two of six water bottles and a lunch box were not labeled.
Plan of Correction: Upon notification, all unlabeled water bottles and the lunch box were immediately labeled with the child's full name. Staff completed a review of all classrooms to ensure all food and beverage containers were properly labeled and dated.
All classroom staff will be retrained on labeling requirements under 8V AC20-780-560-F. Effective immediately, teachers will check all bottles, cups, and lunch containers upon arrival each morning and label any items that are not properly identified. Management will conduct weekly spot checks to ensure ongoing adherence.
A friendly reminder was also sent to parents requesting that all bottles and lunch containers be clearly labeled with their child's name prior to arrival at the center.
