Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted on 02/27/2024. A tour of the facility was conducted, in addition to a record review and interviews with staff. The Inspector reviewed children?s and staff records, along with any requested program records submitted by the facility to determine if required documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard 8VAC20-780-500-A
Based on observation the center did not ensure staff washed their hands before and after a diaper change.

Evidence:
1. Staff in the infant room did not wash her hands between diaper changes. She was observed changing 3 different babies diapers back-to-back wearing the same pair of gloves.
Plan of Correction: The director will retrain infant staff on proper handwashing and diapering procedures. Management will follow-up for future compliance.
Standard 8VAC20-780-500-B
Based on observation the center did not ensure disposable diapers were disposed in a leakproof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot-operated or used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.

1. Staff in the infant room did not use a foot operated trash can or a trash can used in such a way that neither the staff member's hand nor the soiled diaper touches an exterior surface of the storage system during disposal. Staff was observed placing soiled diapers on the changing table and later by the staff using their hands to open the back door and put the soiled diapers outside.
Plan of Correction: The director will retrain infant staff on proper handwashing and diapering procedures. Management will follow-up for future compliance.
