Inspector Notes

A monitoring inspection was conducted on 5/13/24 from 10:40 am to 11:40 am. There were 11 children (30 points) present in direct care and supervision of 2 staff supervising. The children were observed in free play and eating lunch. The lunch menu included pasta, meatballs, nuggets, mixed veggies, fruit and milk. There were no children with allergies or medications. 3 children's records, 2 caregiver's records, attendance and emergency drill records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. For any questions regarding this inspection, please contact me at mahrukh.aziz@doe.virginia.gov or 571-835-4718.

Violations

2
Standard 8VAC20-800-540-A
Based on observation, safety straps were not used when feeding tables and chairs were used.
Evidence:
1. Two children were observed in the feeding table, without being strapped in using the safety straps. The children were observed getting out of their seats and climbing onto the table.
2. One child in the feeding chair on the floor was not secured, and was observed climbing out of the seat and standing on the tray attached to the chair.
3. The provider stated that the feeding chair on the floor does not have a buckle, and the tray can be adjusted to secure the occupying chair. The provider stated that the tray does not work properly.
Plan of Correction: All assistants will be reminded to ensure that children are buckled in, and any floor chair that does operate properly will be removed.
Standard 8VAC20-800-680-B
Based on observation and staff interview, caregivers did not ensure that children's hands were washed with warm running water and soap.
Evidence:
1. The children were observed in free play with toys, directly after which they started lunch. Handwashing was not observed before lunch.
2. The provider stated that they had washed hands when they returned inside from outdoor play.
Plan of Correction: We will make sure handwashing is done before eating.
