Inspector Notes

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on September 23, 2021 and concluded on September 24, 2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There was 1 child present, age 2 with 1 provider supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 1 child record, 1 staff record and 1 household member were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Based on observation and and staff interviews, the provider did not ensure to assist in preventing choking, by serving food that is is hard, round, small, thick and sticky, or smooth and slippery such as whole hot dogs sliced into rounds, nuts, seeds, raisins, uncut grapes, uncut raw carrots, peanuts, chunks of peanut butter, hard candy, and popcorn shall not be served to children under four years of age, unless the food is prepared before being served in a manner that will reduce the risk of choking, i.e., hot dogs cut lengthwise, grapes cut in small pieces, and carrots cooked or cut lengthwise.

Evidence: On September 23, 2021, for lunch Child #1 was served hotdogs and bananas cut into circles. This was confirmed virtually by photograph from the provider. These items are considered potential choking hazards.
Plan of Correction: Cut hotdogs and bananas lengthwise and not into circles.
