Inspector Notes

An unannounced on-site renewal inspection was conducted on 02/15/2024. There were 97 children, ages 2 months-6 years, and 24 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector observed the following: arrival, breakfast, free choice activities, and large motor play outside. A total of 5 children?s records and 7 staff records, were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with staff: attendance requirements, playground safety. The inspector arrived at 8: 30 AM and departed at 10:40 AM.
The violation notice was amended on 02/29/2024.

Based on review of staff?s records the center failed to ensure that all out of state background checks were obtained.

Evidence:

Staff # 2 hired on 01/08/2024 and lived outside of the state of Virginia in the past five years in a non NFF state (national fingerprint file). Staff # 2 is required to have a criminal background prior to starting the position.
Plan of Correction: The Ex Director will check to verify the status of the background check.

Based on review of the playground safety plan, the center failed to ensure that all required procedures were established.

Evidence:

The playground safety plan was missing the following procedure: method of maintaining resilient surface.
Plan of Correction: The playground safety plan has been updated and all staff are aware.

Based on review of the family handbook, the center failed to ensure that all required policies were provided to the parent in writing.

Evidence:

The following policies were missing the following policies from the family handbook:
Transportation, Description of established line of authority for staff Custodial parent?s right to be admitted to the center.

Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that any surface that has been contaminated with body fluids shall be cleaned and sanitized.

Evidence:

An infant spit up on the floor, the teacher used a baby wipe to clean up the body fluid.
Plan of Correction: The Ex. Director will ensure that all staff are trained in bodily fluids and how to clean and sanitize the area.
