Inspector Notes
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 3/11/2024. Two inspectors were on site from approximately 9:55 am-1:47 pm. There were 31 children present, ranging in ages from 5 months to 7 years, with 4 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, special care and emergencies, nutrition and background checks. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Please complete the plan of correction and date to be corrected for each violation cited on the violation notice and return it to me within 5 business days from today. You will need to specify how the deficient practice will be or has been corrected. Just writing the word corrected is not acceptable. Your plan of correction must contain: 1) steps to correct the noncompliance with the standard(s), 2) measures to prevent the noncompliance from occurring again; and 3) person(s) responsible for implementing each step and/or monitoring any preventative measures. Please do not use staff names; list staff by positions only.
Violations
3Evidence:
1. Staff #1 was observed retrieving a group of eight school aged children from a classroom. In interview, staff #1 stated that the children were unsupervised for "a few minutes."
2. Administration acknowledged that the eight school aged children were not in sight and sound.
Evidence:
1. At approximately 10:00 am, two inspectors observed 25 children in the care of two staff. The children ranged in age from two years to seven years. The staff to child ratio for two year old children is one staff to eight children. (1:8) Staff began to send children home at approximately 10:15 am. At approximately 11:00 am, the classroom was in ratio with 16 children and two staff.
2. Administration acknowledged the classroom was out of ratio.
child to staff ratio is met.
Going forward, when a staff member calls out at the last minute, Ashton Day Care will ensure
we are within ratio in several ways:
1) As soon as a staff member calls out, we will call in a substitute.
2) If the substitute is unavailable, we will send out a shortage of staff notification via
Brightwheel messenger.
3) If children start arriving once we have met the ratio capacity; unfortunately we will
have to turn children away at the door.
Evidence:
1. On 3/11/2024, 31 children were observed in care. The center's license has a capacity of 29.
2. Administration acknowledged that they were two children over their approved licensed capacity.
